Republican Sen. Joseph McCarthy rose to prominence in 1950 asserting he had a list of “members of the communist party” employed by the State Department. That list grew bigger over time. Florida appears to have its own list too under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis: violators of the state’s ban on vaccine passports facing aggregate fines in the millions. Who’s on the list? The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Plantation Police Department, Dr. Phillips Center, a Fernandina Beach yoga business, Leon County, Orange County and other miscreants who dare seek to protect their employees and customers. McCarthyism lasted four years; let’s hope this insanity is shorter-lived!
