So, my thought is if you have a particular understanding of the type of lifestyle you’re trying to inculcate with the enterprise you’ve created, competition isn’t a question of competition, it’s a question of a challenge to the lifestyle you’re accustomed to.
My point of departure for an enterprise is that it is the process of creating a rewarding nurturing experience for our Associates. We understand that in order to do that, we have to provide a rewarding and nurturing experience for our customers.
We know that if we do it well, we get to sustain the quality of life we experience. If we do it poorly, the opportunity to continue to experience our lifestyle diminishes and is at risk.
Our enterprise is very much like a country.
We fight for America because we fight for our experience of living. We fight against those who challenge us, because we are concerned our quality of life will in some way be diminished. If they should win, we will lose the experience of life we love.
So too with enterprise.
However, in order for that thought to take hold, we must have a solid understanding of the fact that there is a lifestyle we want to protect and in order to protect that, we have to compete harder.
That point of departure is very different than that of typical business where the issue isn’t protecting a lifestyle, it’s simply protecting your job, if you’re an employee, or your profit, if you’re and owner.
