It’s not that President Biden’s task force to address bottlenecks in supply chains on essential components is ill-advised; it is appropriate and needed. The problem is that it is 50 years too late. We started outsourcing manufacturing originally to Japan, then to Indo-China, and eventually to China over the past five decades to save on the cost of labor and materials. While that drove the cost of finished goods lower for American consumers, it also gutted countless segments of the American economy, as our IP was hijacked. We need to focus on systemic solutions for what got us here to start with.
