It’s been a rough week for Ron DeSantis. A judge ruled that the governor’s argument that an elected official can prohibit independent businesses from requiring vaccinations for the protection of their own customers and staff is soon to be struck down. And the governor’s threat to withhold the salaries of school boards requiring mask-wearing by students incited a seething backlash from school officials and open defiance of the governor’s order by several school systems. When it comes to these critical issues, public safety and common sense beat politics, at least most of the time.
