Orlando Sentinel’s Central Florida 100: VACCINES FOR HEALTH-CARE WORKERS

, , Leave a comment

After coronavirus vaccines were distributed to the elderly in senior-living communities beginning in mid-February, the outcomes for residents have been profound, severely lowering cases, hospitalizations and deaths. Nonetheless, despite a 90% adoption rate, not everyone can be vaccinated for medical reasons and, with an employee adoption rate of just 50%, seniors will continue to remain at risk and their living environments impaired until vaccination for health-care workers is addressed. Public policy must always trump politics, when the health, safety and welfare of our citizens are at stake. It is time to make vaccination for health-care workers mandatory in the state of Florida.
