Listening to the announcement that Valencia President Sandy Shugart was going to be retiring was somewhat of a wake-up call. Some 15 years ago, I heard Sandy address an EDC Leadership Conference. I had the distinct impression that though he was modest in persona, he was our mentor and we were his students. With his clear vision, he laid out a plan that has propelled Valencia to national recognition for affordable educational and career development for hundreds of thousands of students. Our thanks to a Renaissance man leading a Renaissance effort filled with humanity, education and vision.
