UCF Professor Jayan Thomas and Ph.D. student Deepak Pandey have found a way of increasing battery life by anywhere from 25% to 35% by converting the outside shell of an automobile or a spacecraft into light weight carbon material capable of operating not only as a battery source for energy, but a power suit covering the vehicle itself. While still a few years from commercial deployment, advances in this nanotechnology fuel faster adoption of clean energy and could morph batteries from devices inserted into a vehicle to the vehicle itself. Stay tuned for rapid development in this area.
