It’s starting to seem like George Orwell’s “1984” in Florida these days, at least according to Rep. Guillermo Smith and the Florida Center for Government Accountability, which filed suit against the DeSantis administration for refusing to release COVID-19 related records which purportedly would confirm the devastating effects of the delta variant. Information stands on its own. It forms the foundation for public education. Depriving the public from having access to it is disheartening, disingenuous and poor public policy. And, as Orwell demonstrated, when driven by politics, it is also manipulative and dangerous.
