The cultural war raging in America since former President Donald Trump was catapulted to office is now center stage in a heavyweight bout between two contenders with an astonishingly different definition of freedom. As Gov. Ron DeSantis rolls to the right since his early Tea Party days to capture Trump loyalists, California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom, victorious after the attempted recall, forcefully articulates a vision which cuts to the core of the divide. The New York Times has called Ron DeSantis the new face of the Republican Party. Gavin Newsom may not be that face for the Democrats, but the battle lines have clearly been drawn.
