U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy’s endorsement of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for president is noteworthy. Current Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are locked in a bitter feud for the progressive wing of the party, Joe Biden is viewed as a popular but hapless surrogate for Hillary Clinton, and Pete Buttigieg is accepted as talented but not ready for prime time. Murphy’s endorsement highlights that Bloomberg is a competent and tested business and political leader, economic conservative and social moderate who not only holds cred in both parties but can beat Trump.
