When President Biden and President Xi Jinping met in Beijing, the prominent photo which identified their mutual agendas showcased outstretched hands as the President approached the Chinese Leader with a double handshake. It is no secret that relations between our two countries have been strained and that China’s agenda is clearly at odds with ours. However, the two global superpowers have a codependency which is, despite its challenges, incapable of separation. While China has made huge strides over the past decades, it has only done that as a workforce powerhouse to America’s entrepreneurial innovations. There may be showmanship in the handshake, but there is reality in the relationship.
