Orlando Sentinel’s Central Florida 100: MIGRATION CONTINUES

Billionaire Carl Icahn

Apparently Mr. Trump is not alone. Billionaire Carl Icahn, at 83 years old, declared he was moving his company to Miami next year, saying “one day I was at my home in Florida and thought, ‘why the hell am I staying in New York?’” Icahn’s departure is symptomatic: New York, Connecticut and New Jersey have lost billions in state revenue to the migration of billionaires to Florida. The combination of a healthy economic environment, lower wages, no income tax, reasonable government regulation, and warmer – if a wee bit humid – weather, cinched the decision for Barry Sternlicht, Paul Tudor Jones, David Tepper, Leon Cooperman, and alas, Mr. Trump.
