Putting politics aside for a moment, it’s worth pausing to examine one of the miscellaneous ways in which continuous exposure to COVID-19 has affected America’s habits. Besides OD’ing on streaming and Zooming, apparently Americans have also rediscovered cleanliness. According to a recent report by Procter & Gamble, against pre-pandemic levels: cleaning and sanitizing has increased 30%, dishwashing has increased 15%, air freshening has increased 20%, and paper towel usage has increased 15%. Whether hygiene will survive the defeat of coronavirus is anyone’s guess, but, for the time being, it apparently remains on everyone’s mind.
