Orlando Sentinel’s Central Florida 100: BILLIONAIRE ABUSE

In watching the Democratic debate in Las Vegas, it was not difficult to notice that the word “billionaire” has achieved secondary meaning for Democratic candidates, rivaling “criminal,” “evildoer,” “miscreant,” and even worse. Apparently, an individual who has become a billionaire by starting and growing a company has no place in American politics, or alas in the Democratic Party. It is not so much in defense of Michael Bloomberg than it is a simple observation that we have strayed far afield from a time in which America was built by the self-made — individuals like Carnegie, Vanderbilt, Mellon, and even Disney whose industry benefited us all.
