As I am sure most of you do, our family has its favorite pizza places. One of those is Giovanni’s Pizza, located on Aloma and Lakemont in Winter Park. It is a fantastic pizza and their Greek and antipasto salads are wonderful, I’m sure they have other good food too, but I never get around to trying it since the pizza and salads are so good.
Friday night, we nestled in for a Netflix movie and wanted to order. Giovanni’s now offers UberEats, so we could think of nothing better than Giovanni’s pizza delivered rapido with UberEats.
We were having technical issues with Brighthouse. No matter what I tried to do, I couldn’t get the Spectrum order through. So, I had to default to the old fashioned way – calling. I called, let them know that I was having technical difficulties with the UberEats app, but wanted to order a pizza.
The Giovanni’s employee told me that it was no problem at all and took my order. When she asked me for my credit card number, I indicated that UberEats has the credit card number, but she indicated that she was placing the order directly, not through UberEats. Suspicious, I asked her how long delivery was and she said it would take about an hour. I then told her that when I order through UberEats, I had the order at my house in less than 30 minutes since they have the pizza finished in about 20 minutes. Since I didn’t want cold pizza delivered to the house (as has happened), I elected to go pick it up myself. She acknowledged that their delivery is not their strongest suit, and told me it was best to pick it up. I did and picked up the pizza 20 minutes later.
I love Giovanni’s pizza. We all do. And I would definitely order Giovanni’s in the future. In addition, I recognize that Giovanni’s is not in the logistics business; it’s in the pizza business. That’s what makes it so good.
However, it just simply brought to mind for me that it is a whole new ballgame out there when restaurants can focus on what they do best and logistics companies or, said differently, logistics applications like UberEats, can do what they do best.
